With famous players such as former Masters Champion Ian Woosnam and Ryder Cup great Dai Rees, Wales is a country with a rich golfing heritage.
The country’s main golf resort is Celtic Manor, venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup and home to three excellent courses – The Montgomerie, Roman Road and 2010.
On the coast there are great tests in past Walker and Curtis Cup venue Royal Porthcawl and Southerndown, according to Henry Cotton home to “one of the toughest opening holes in golf”.
Former European Tour host Marriott St Pierre includes two excellent layouts – the Old and Mathern – set in the Monmouthshire countryside.
Packages to Wales can include fine dining at the likes of Celtic Manor’s Crown restaurant, run by Michelin-star chef James Sommerin, and visits to the Forum Health Club and Spa.
Wales offers mountain scenery in the Brecon Beacons and Cambrians, while the clean waters off the coast attract basking sharks, leatherback turtles, Atlantic grey seals and dolphins.
