The dream was to create Europe's finest golf destination. The vision was that of hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, a passionate golfer who scoured the Mediterranean coastline in search of the perfect site upon which to build a luxury resort for a discerning, high end golf market. He found his spot on the south west shores of Sicily.

203 Rooms and Suites are set across 230 hectares of olive groves and countryside in two distinct types of building, Courtyard and Landscape, offering a real sense of privacy and space.

Deluxe Room (40m²/400ft²) – Feature a king or two twin sized beds, with magnificent sea views from private terrace. The spacious bathroom is finished in stone and guests enjoy exclusive Italian products.

Superior Deluxe Room (40m²/400ft²) – Located in the Landscape Villas close to the sea featuring private outdoor terrace with seating. Guests benefit from a private dining menu and well-stocked in-room bar.

Junior Suite (60m²/600ft²) – All Suites have been designed in a fresh and contemporary Sicilian style with rich artwork and fabrics. Guests enjoy uninterrupted sea views from a private terrace with seating.

Classic Suite (60m²/600ft²) – The spacious suites are located in the Landscape Villas with private entrance and all include CD & DVD players, iPod dock, yoga mats, beach bag and towels.

Grand Suite (72m²/700ft²) - Each suite features large separate living room, kitchenette and spacious bedroom - featuring walk-through wardrobe. The Grand Suites all feature a private internal courtyard with seating and private sea-facing terrace with a hammock.

Ambassador Suite (170m²/1700ft²) – The two impressive Ambassador Suites at Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, are positioned for maximum privacy. Each suite incorporates a spacious separate living room with dining area, kitchenette, magnificent bedroom with ensuite walk through shower and guest bathroom. Private internal courtyard and terrace are included.

Presidential Suite (175m²/1750ft²) - The Suite is situated in the Landscape Villas, close to the sea and features three terraces with private swimming pool. The suite features large separate living room, dining area, kitchenette, guest bathroom and very spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed. The Suite also features private internal courtyard area with outdoor seating.

Bar/Dining

La Zagara - This exclusive à la carte restaurant serves fine Mediterranean cuisine prepared with the freshest local ingredients.

Liolà - A typical Sicilian Trattoria with beautiful cliff top views, serving home-made pasta, salads, fish, shellfish and ice-cream.

Buon Giorno - Casual restaurant serving an international buffet breakfast. In the evenings it is open exclusively for children offering delicious and healthy dishes specifically created for younger guests.

Amare - Beach restaurant with outdoor seating, the menu features a selection of antipasti, salads, grilled fish, barbecues and pizza.

La Granita Bar - Vibrant bar and lounge with large terrace overlooking the pool and gardens. Specialities include traditional Tapas style Mediterranean dishes throughout the day.

Torre Bar - Perfect for early evening cocktails or after-dinner drinks or snacks during the day. The Torre Bar features nightly live entertainment of contemporary light jazz and music from the island.

Pool Bar - Guests in the pool areas can be served specialities include refreshing cocktails, salads, sandwiches and burgers.

Spa Bar - Combine a spa treatment with a healthy diet. A menu full of antioxidant-rich and vitamin-packed cocktails created with fresh ingredients of fruit or vegetables, plus light and healthy dishes.

Leisure Facilities

The Verdura Resort features tennis courts, 60m infinity swimming pool, The Verdura Spa & Health Club with fully fully-equipped gym and running trails which meander through the olive and lemon groves.

The Beach Verdura is fortunate to have 1.8km of coastline. Walk from your room to the beautiful pebble beach flanked with grass areas leading right down to the beach.

Swim out on the azure waters, and you will have a clear view of the resort nestled into the landscape, with the terracotta roofs and church towers of nearby Sciacca in the distance.

Guests can relax reading a book under a parasol on a sun-lounger, or enjoying the great range of non-motorized water sports available, such as sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddling.

Kids & Teen Club Verdura offers a full range of activities for children including a Kids Club for 4 – 12 year olds and for teenagers (See Families section).

Bike Riding The area around Sciacca, the nearest town to the resort, is an ideal destination for a bike ride. Guests can explore its unique landscape, and discover the traditional architecture of baglio, the island’s traditional farmhouses, among the olive trees and vineyards.

Fishing Sicily and the sea are inseparable, as you will discover on our fishing experience. Guests will spend a day at sea alongside local fishermen, learning the ropes and enjoying a superb perspective of the island’s coastline. You will be able to taste the fresh fish that are caught, learn traditional recipes, swim in places inaccessible by land and discover little gems of nature. There are also trips by glassbottomed boat to observe sea urchins.

Kite-surfing and Wind-surfing One thing that never fails in Sicily is the wind. To take advantage of this, the island has a beach dedicated to the sports of kite-surfing and wind-surfing. Puzziteddu is about 10km from Mazara del Vallo, with long stretches of sand and excellent wind conditions.

Local Area

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and is as captivating as it is diverse. For centuries, it has been at the crossroads of civilisations and each has left an indelible imprint on this Italian region.

A short drive away is the picturesque seaside town of Sciacca with medieval alleys and baroque churches, seafood restaurants and fine sandy beaches.

Further south along the coast is the ancient town of Agrigento, founded in 582BC by Greek settlers. Here you will find the unforgettable Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the remains of eight Greek temples. In July, their illuminated columns make a beautiful backdrop to the annual Blues & Wine Soul Festival. Another spellbinding ancient site are the Ancient Greek temples at tranquil Selinunte.

You can also soak up the simple pleasures of the countryside around the resort. Explore vineyards, olive and lemon groves, or find your own secret sandy cove. The Verdura Tennis Academy provides a luxurious, well-equipped centre with state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated team of professional tennis coaches.

The Verdura Sunball Tennis Programme offers flexible, tailor-made training programmes aimed at all levels - from beginners to tournament players.

Lessons can be taken with a partner, in a group or on a one-to-one basis, and guests have the chance to participate in tournaments each week. There are also special events and tennis camps featuring famous ex-professional players.

Junior guests at Verdura will find playing tennis here fun and exciting, and an excellent way of making new friends while on holiday.

The courses for children aged 4 to 12 are based on the successful Champ & Taiger Academy concept, which focuses on hand-eye coordination, ball awareness, team spirit and movement. THE PROS

The tennis coaches at Verdura Tennis Academy are highly trained professionals with a long-standing love of tennis.

Zoltan Vary, the head coach, is a former professional player on ATP Challenger tournaments, having played tennis since 1979 and coaching since 1997. He has worked in professional tennis academies and hotel resorts around Europe; one of his students went on to become four times national champion, Player of the Year in 2009, and ranked number 2 in the USA.

The new Verdura Spa concept is inspired by Sebastian Kneipp. Kneipp was a 19th century priest and naturopath who cured himself of tuberculosis by brief exposures to the cold water in the Danube River. He then began to occupy himself intensively with the health-promoting power of water and the healing effects of selected plants. He also strongly believed in regular exercise, a healthy diet and mental-emotional balance. He became a pioneer in holistic thought.

At Verdura Spa, Sebastian Kneipp’s five pillars are followed: water, plants, exercise, nutrition and balance.

• Water: Kneipp’s treatments involved many different water applications, from cold rinses, hot and cold baths, contrast baths and even hot and cold compresses, which he felt strengthened the body's self-healing power. Verdura therapists perform treatments using different temperature compresses, private steam baths, a hydro massage bath and a Jacuzzi. Guests can follow a thalasso circuit at their leisure in our four outdoor thalassotherapy pool. They can also use the infrared sauna, Finnish saunas, double-height steam bath and experience showers.
• Plants: Centuries of experience, as well as modern scientific findings, have shown us the healing effects of selected herbs and plants. Kneipp said that “every single plant has its own individual effects." At Verdura Spa, local plants and herbs are carefully selected and integrated them into treatments. Some of the ingredients we use are grown at Verdura.
• Exercise: Kneipp believed that you did not need to be an athlete to use exercise therapy. He also believed that the integration of exercise into daily lives improved wellbeing. With Rocco Forte Fitness, there have numerous programmes, classes and activities to match each guest’s requirements. Exercise is tailored for individuals, as well as providing tips to integrate into daily lives back home.
• Nutrition: Kneipp praised simple, nourishing food, with plenty of fruit and vegetables. Celebrity chef Fulvio Pierangelini has created healthy menus inspired by the produce grown at our resort. The menus are rich in fruit, vegetables, fish, olive oil and whole grains; they are flavoured with herbs grown in the garden at the resort. Nutritionally balanced food and the re-education of the body to crave what is good for it are at the heart of the Verdura approach.
• Balance: The balance of all these activities, with intensive rest phases, is at the centre of Kneipp’s philosophy. In our fast-paced everyday lives, everybody needs to find time to reflect, relax and replenish. Verdura Spa, set amid sun-kissed olive groves, oranges and lemon trees, with views of the mountains and endless space, is the perfect setting to harmonise body and soul again. Verdura has created places of sanctuary, such as our Spa For the Mind Library curated by the School of Life.

As part of Rocco Forte Health, Verdura Spa has 5 health-focussed programmes – Fit, Slim, Detox, Anti-Age and Relax. Each programme is available for three or five days and they all integrate Sebastian Kneipp’s five pillars.

At Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, all guests are treated exceptionally well, but junior guests are made to feel very special!

With its exclusive beach, hectares of wide, open countryside and idyllic climate, Verdura makes the perfect destination for a family holiday. It is a safe and secure environment and caters for all ages, from babies and toddlers to the most demanding of teenagers. Parents can relax in the knowledge that everything has been thought of. Children can relax knowing that every day will see the start of a brand-new adventure!

Entertainment comes in many exciting forms. There is a special swimming pool for junior guests and a children’s club open every day from 9 am to 7 pm, seven days a week, and is free to attend. A full range of activities has been developed for those aged between 4 and 12.

Older children have their own special place at Verdura - a dedicated hang-out area for teenagers, where they can meet like-minded guests. A tailor-made leisure programme offers the chance to try a thrilling variety of sports and activities, from golf and sailing to tennis and windsurfing. There are also excursions to explore Sicily without the parents in tow.

So guests can pack a little lighter, the resort can supply everything from high chairs and crayons to NINTENDO WII consoles. Before arrival, your child’s details will be taken, so they can be greeted with the appropriate amenities. All the rooms at the resort sleep two, but extra beds can be added to some room types and rooms can be added with interconnecting doors to accommodate families of all sizes. Those with children under the age of four will have their rooms specially childproofed on arrival. Pool and beach areas are supervised at all times, and a professional babysitting service is available.

Verdura - East Course

Verdura Golf and Spa Resort has been rated as Italy's best by Rolex Top 1000 Golf Courses Guide. Rocco Forte Verdura East Course is more undulating than the West Course, set on an exposed landscape creating a true links style challenge with prevailing sea breezes, undulating greens and fairways. Its finishing holes don't quite have the glamour of the West's and the front nine par fives that link the central area to the southern beach holes are a little underwhelming, but there are more directional changes here and plenty of design surprises as well. Highpoints include the short sixth which will become one of the most photographed holes in Europe. Club selection will vary greatly depending on the strength and direction of the wind. This is Verdura’s “Postage Stamp”. From the 13th the course turns seaward, both the 14th and 15th are long holes that plummet across linksy ground while the 16th is a delicious short hole played into a wickedly shallow target. The finishing duo are also really strong; the penultimate hole rising gently into the foot of a Sicilian hillside, and the fabulous par four closer crashing from an elevated tee right along the craggy coastline.

Verdura - West Course

Verdura Golf and Spa Resort has been rated as Italy's best by Rolex Top 1000 Golf Courses Guide. Verdura’s Championship West Course plays along the coastline with dramatic beachside holes. The West Course actually incorporates more coastal land than the East Course, but a number of its early holes stretch consecutively along inland and a few fairways are a little tight given the exposed nature of the site. The beachside holes are its star attraction, golfers get their first glimpse of the sea at the 8th and 9th before returning for a four hole encore from the 15th. The West’s final four holes are considered the best with spectacular backdrop views over the Mediterranean. The final two holes hug the cliff tops and the threatening 18th tee is reminiscent of the final hole at Pebble Beach!
