Local Area

History and friendliness surround you on a visit to Greensboro, a quaint town with antique shopping, historic sites and friendly people. The town of Eatonton is home to Brer Rabbit and the Uncle Remus Museum. Tree-lined streets present some of the most unique styles of Antebellum architecture. The town of Madison has been described as "the most cultured and aristocratic town from Charleston to New Orleans."

History of Reynolds Plantation

Reynolds Plantation is part of what was once known as "Cracker's Neck," a highly favored section of Greene County (named after Revolutionary War hero General Nathaniel Greene).

After a period of decline, approximately 7,000 acres of Cracker's Neck were reclaimed by Mercer Reynolds Sr., who built a hunting retreat named "Linger Longer." A Greene County native, Reynolds was a highly successful businessman and inventor, earning a patent for his process of solidifying cottonseed oil. Although he moved to Chattanooga in the 1920s, he maintained ties to the area, often returning to Linger Longer to hunt, fish and relax.

During this same period, James Madison Reynolds Sr., Mercer's cousin, was assembling land in the area for timber production. By the late 1930s the combined land holdings of the Reynolds family approximated 10,000 acres, which were left in a trust. In 1985, the trust was released to his grandchildren. The owners of Reynolds Plantation began working to determine the best use of the land that their family had owned for so many years. As development of Reynolds Plantation continues, members of the Reynolds family remain intensely mindful of the historical value of the land and the need to preserve, and enhance, its natural beauty and legacy.

Golf Academy

The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation

Step into the exclusive world of the tour golf professional - the Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation - It’s Where the Pros Go!

"...I can truly say that the "Kingdom Experience" is one that every true golf nut deserves to experience at least once in their lifetime." - Eerik Kauppinen, Charlotte, NC

The Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation is a one-of-a-kind facility designed to create the best golf equipment to take players to the next level. TaylorMade Tour Staff Professionals, like Sergio Garcia, Sean O'Hair, Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis, rely on the Kingdom to be custom-fitted for TaylorMade equipment with the utmost accuracy and precision. In addition, individuals seeking a unique golfing experience can also take advantage of the Kingdom.

Custom-fittings at the Kingdom are performed using TaylorMade's MATT System (Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade), a sophisticated club-fitting tool that combines nine high-speed cameras, a launch monitor, and a computer to gather vital swing information. MATT distills that information to create a remarkably sophisticated computer-animated image of your swing that's viewable from every angle. These numbers are then validated using Launch Monitor Technology, which measures the exact three-dimensional club movement and ball flight, and provides precise data on the ball launch, ball flight and ball landing.

Golf Academy

Reynolds Plantation Golf Academy

The Reynolds Golf Academy is a state-of-the-art learning center inspired by the traditions of Atlanta golf and the legendary heritage of Augusta—both only an hour's drive away.

Adjacent to Rees Jones' much-lauded Oconee Course and the AAA Five Diamond Award-winning Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, the Reynolds Golf Academy welcomes students to the 16-acre golfing campus.

Not everybody can win the Masters. For Charlie King, golf instruction is about helping golfers win their Masters, whatever that personal goal may be. It's a distinction that guides the veteran instructor and 16-year PGA of America member through the development of programming for Reynolds Golf Academy.

"Our New Rules philosophy means we don't make you look like a golfer, we turn you into a golfer," King explains. "This means we focus on the essential golf skills that great golfers have in common."

With 16 acres of practice tees, a multi-tiered pitching range, a one-of-a-kind short game area and a 6,550 ft2 Academy building that includes two enclosed hitting bays, video technology, six-camera MATT lab and classroom, Reynolds Golf Academy has the tools that lead to pinpoint feedback and noticeable improvement.

These facilities are where Charlie King's Essential of Golf™ programs take place. Charlie studied golf swings, short game, and course management. That's normal, all golf schools and instructors have done that. He studied motor learning principles, communication skills, physics as it relates to golf and kinesiology. It's is a little unusual to go to these lengths to make sure we have the knowledge to create the ultimate learning experience. But the biggest thing he did was focus his attention on how to make you, the golfer, successful.

This may be golf's most logical instruction program.

Charlie looks at teaching golf the same way swimming and martial arts are taught. The process is not mysterious. You break the big skill down into its component skills, the Essentials. You evaluate the student's current skill level in each of these essential skills and determine which skill is most important to work on right now. You then explain and demonstrate the drill to have the student start working toward a repeatable habit. Feedback is then provided through video, training aids and verbal means. To reach the black belt level in golf, you don't need to do 1,000 things 7 times. You need to do the 7 Essentials™ 1,000 times.

With classes running throughout the Spring and Fall, there's sure to be a time and format for every student:

- Half-Day School

- Full-Day School

- Three Day "Red Zone" Short Game School

- Three Day Essentials of GolfTM Total Game Improvement School

- One Hour Clinics

When you attend at Reynolds Golf Academy Schools, you will leave with:

- A personalized CD

- A manual (for attendees of Three Day Essentials of GolfTM Total Game Improvement School)

- A book (for attendees of the Three Day "Red Zone" Short Game School)

- Shirt, cap, hat clip - Reynolds Golf Academy logoed

"I teach you the skills you need to lower your scores and increase your enjoyment. You'll love golf when you learn golf from someone who lives golf! That's my guarantee to you." - Charlie King

Reynolds - Oconee

"We have uncovered a dramatic golf course without changing a lot of what we found when we got here." Rees Jones, Designer, The Oconee.

The Oconee Course, the Rees Jones-designed resort course, presents a unique and formidable golfing challenge. Described by many as a “mind-game” golf course, the new Jones addition to the Reynolds Plantation landscape is designed to be a true risk/reward challenge - often forcing golfers to choose between direct tee shots over inlets of Lake Oconee and long drives down tree-lined dog-leg fairways.

Noted for its spectacular par threes - featuring multiple tee boxes, drop shots from elevated tees and numerous water hazards - the course offers five holes in which Lake Oconee comes directly into play and for four others tendering magnificent lake views.

The interior creeks and ponds and the expansive vistas of Lake Oconee provide spectacular scenery for Oconee Course golfers.

The Oconee Course at Reynolds Plantation has already captured the attention of the golfing industry, hosting highly-visible tournaments like the 2007 PGA Cup and the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship.

Reynolds - National

Tom Fazio has created 27 holes at The National with drama as unique as the setting.

The National features impressive elevations, breathtaking views and several holes skirting the shores of Lake Oconee. The layout runs throught dense forests of hardwoods, pines, flowering wild dogwoods and some of Lake Oconee's most dramatic lakefront terrain.

"The new Fazio nine at the National Course is a delight, with vast, rollicking fairways framed by flowering dogwoods that lend an Augusta National-like touch in the springtime." Allen Allnoch, LINKS Magazine.

Course designer: Jack Nicklaus

Reynolds - Great Waters

"The first time I went to Great Waters, I knew we had the potential to have a great golf course, but we had to find it. I think we found it. I think we have great balance on the golf course. I think we have great tree-lined holes. We have great water holes. We've utilized the lake to a large degree for some of the difficulty of the holes. But we've also taken the holes and utilized the lake for view and kept the holes off of it. It's one of the really great pieces of property that I've ever had the opportunity to work with." —Jack Nicklaus

Great Waters, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-signature design, winds through densely wooded evergreen corridors only to open up to nine holes featuring the blue waters of Lake Oconee as the rough. Named as one of the best courses in Georgia, second only to Augusta National, Great Waters proves to be one of the most aesthetically inspiring golf courses in the US.

Reynolds Landing

Reynolds Landing (formerly Port Armor) was the first golf course built on popular Lake Oconee, setting the stage for a prime golf destination.

Recognised as one of Georgia's best golf courses at its debut, second only to Augusta National, it features a variety of holes that wind through naturally wooded areas and rolling hills.

Three holes wrap dramatically along the shoreline of the lake and the green settings and shot values make this one of the premium tests of golf on Lake Oconee.
